Crowns Tea 2024

The Crowns Tea is on Saturday, February 24, from 1-3pm. The Guthrie Public Library will host our 8th, The Crowns Tea. This event is based on the book “Crowns:  Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats” by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry. This year’s theme is “A Crown Can Change it All.” Attendees will partake of drinks, hors d’oeuvres and entertainment. All attendees must wear a hat (church hat is preferred). This year’s theme is “Engaging Generations of Humans.” Our speaker is Cynthia Laws Calloway.

Cynthia Laws Calloway, has a B.A in English Literature from The Colorado College, Masters in Education and Counseling from the University of Central Florida and a Masters in Ministry Arts and Culture from Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, OK.  Cynthia is a retired (LPC) Oklahoma Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor.  She owned the Family Counseling PITSTOP in Midwest City, and Co-Owner of The Business Consortium in Oklahoma City. She says now she just spends her time being a Grandma and storyteller. A military spouse, originally from Daytona Beach, Florida, she along with husband, Roosevelt, relocated to OKC in 1995 where she assisted in counseling victims and survivors of Murrah Building Bombing. Cynthia has been a regular at the OKC StorySLAM for many years and has a gift for including song in her stories. She is a member of our volunteer leadership committee that helps plan the events and programs, and she is also a graduate of the Oklahoma Arts Council’s 2016 Leadership Arts program.

5th Annual Chili Cook-off

On Tuesday, December 6th at 6pm the 5th Annual Chili Cook-off begins!
Here is what you need to know:

  • Entries are signed up the night of the event.
  • There will be judging for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, most spicy, and judges favorite.
  • You will be allowed to taste the competition so bring enough to share!
